Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

Full dentures are specifically designed to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Partial dentures are designed to help replace only several missing teeth with one removable appliance. Dentures allow you to feel confident in your smile while improving functionality. Your new denture can last for anywhere from five to seven years before replacement may be needed.

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?

When you’re missing most or all of your teeth, it can be downright impossible to eat and chew your favorite foods. You may even find that you have trouble speaking normally, and your face may take on a sunken-in appearance to it. In order to rectify this problem, a denture can be made for you to wear. Dentures allow you to function normally while improving the look and feel of your smile.

Who is a good candidate for Dentures & Partials?

Many patients with severely advanced gum disease can benefit from having their existing teeth removed and a denture made. Partials are best for patients who still have a great deal of healthy teeth, but are missing enough to warrant a removable prosthetic appliance. We will perform an exam to determine if you might benefit from a denture of any kind. For a more secured denture experience, implants can be placed to snap onto an overdenture.

What happens during the procedure to make and place Dentures & Partials?

We will first take impressions of your teeth and gums. These molds are used to craft a customized denture just for you. You’ll come back into the office after about one to two weeks to have the denture fitted. This fitting involves adjusting how the denture feels and sits inside of the mouth. It’s not uncommon to need several adjustments before the denture is completely comfortable. It is important to remove your denture nightly in order to clean it of bacteria, plaque and odors.
