Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Keeping up with your dental and oral health involves a comprehensive at-home hygiene plan as well as regular trips into the dental office. Your biannual appointments will involve a thorough professional cleaning and examination. Cleanings are designed to remove heavy buildup from the teeth as well as staining. We check the health of your gums as well as checking for signs of cavities and other intraoral problems.
Why would Dental Exams & Cleanings be needed?
In order to keep your teeth looking their best, you need to take a proactive approach to your oral health. This involves twice-yearly checkup visits. These visits are needed because they help to keep your teeth healthy, clean and free of problems. If there is a problem that is found, early treatment is more effective and less invasive.
Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every person in your family is a candidate for a dental examination and cleaning. In fact, we often recommend that kids come in for this first appointment before age two so that we can help in monitoring their oral health. It is never too early or too late to take care of your smile. Even if it’s been years since your last cleaning, we are here to provide you the care that you need in a nonjudgmental manner.
What happens during Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Your biannual appointment will begin with a dental cleaning. The cleaning is performed by a registered dental hygienist who will use special tools, called scalers, to remove heavy tartar buildup from your teeth. The gums are then checked for signs of both gingivitis and gum disease before the teeth are polished to a high shine. The examination is performed by our doctor who will look for areas of decay, problem restorations and oral cancer. You will then be scheduled for any follow-up treatment as well as your next cleaning and exam.
